Nigeria Q1 2017 Radio & TV Audience Ratings Report

We are pleased to provide you with a Media Measurement report with audience statistics on Top TV Stations and Top Radio Stations for Quarter 1 2017 in Nigeria, where the GeoPoll Media Measurement service is currently available. 

Radio

Using the daily data collected through GeoPoll's Media Measurement Service, GeoPoll has analyzed the top Radio stations at the national level in Nigeria for Q1 2017. We examined both ratings and share for the top stations in Nigeria. The below chart shows the average ratings for the top stations throughout the day:

The graph shows that Wazobia FM is the leading radio station in ratings throughout the day nationally. Its highest ratings are between 2-4PM with an average of 3.66. The second radio station in ratings is Ray Power FM which has its highest point between 8-10AM with an average of 3.21.

There is a stiff competition amongst the other radio stations throughout the day.

GeoPoll also examined average share for Q1 2017:

Wazobia FM achieves the top spot in share with an average of 9.6% of all listeners followed by Ray Power FM with an average of 8.2%. Nigeria Info FM gets the third position with a share of 3.84% followed closely by Fresh FM with a share of 3.83%.

The high share % for other stations outside the top 10 indicates the large number of radio stations in Nigeria, which broadcast across the country at a regional level.

Television

Using the daily data collected through GeoPoll's Media Measurement Service, GeoPoll has analyzed the top TV stations in Nigeria for Q1 2017. We examined both ratings and share for the top stations in Nigeria. The below chart shows the average ratings for the top 10 stations during the peak hours, from 19:00 to 21:30.

According to the graph above, there is a stiff competition between Channels TV and AIT in ratings nationally during peak hours. Channels TV leads at 7-730PM with an average rating of 3.61, 8-830PM with 4.31 and 9-10PM. AIT takes the lead at 7.30PM with an average rating of 3.77 and 9.30PM with 3.66. Silverbird TV consistently achieves the third position on ratings during peak hours nationally with its highest point being at 7.30-8PM with an average of 2.82.

GeoPoll also examined average share across the entire day during Q1 2017.

Channels TV achieves the highest share with an average of 14.2% of all viewers nationally followed by AIT which has an average share of 13.9%. Silverbird TV achieves the third highest share with an average share of 10.3% followed by CNN with an average share of 8.6%.

Of the 22.3% share accounting for stations outside these top 10, 11.6% account for NTA stations, for which we measure ratings at the individual station level within each Nigerian state.
