Ratings Report

We are pleased to provide you with the first Media Measurement report with audience statistics on Top TV Stations and Top Radio Stations for Quarter 1 2017 in Ethiopia, where the GeoPoll Media Measurement service is currently available. Media Measurement was launched in Ethiopia inFebruary 2017. GeoPoll is currently the only daily and independent media measurement service in this country.

Radio

Using the daily data collected through GeoPoll's Media Measurement Service, GeoPoll has analyzed the top Radio stations at the national level in Ethiopia for Q1 2017. We examined both ratings and share for the top stations in Ethiopia. The below chart shows the average ratings for the top stations throughout the day:

According to the graph, FBC takes the lead throughout in rating except at 8-10PM where there is a tie with EBC FM ADDIS 97.1 with a rating of 6.25. DEBUB FM consistently remains the third station in rating. There is a stiff competition also amongst all other stations throughout the peak hours.

GeoPoll also examined average share for Q1 2017:

FBC takes the lead in share with an average of 22.3% followed by EBC FM with a share of 15.1%. DEBUB takes the third position in share with an average of 12.2%. There is a stiff competition amongst the other radio stations at a national level.

The high share of 12.3% for other stations not within the top 10 shows the large number of radio stations in Kenya, which broadcast across the country at a regional level.

Television

Using the daily data collected through GeoPoll's Media Measurement Service, GeoPoll has analyzed the top TV stations in Ethiopia for Q1 2017. We examined both ratings and share for the top stations in Ethiopia. The below chart shows the average ratings for the top 10 stations during the peak hours, from 19:00 to 21:30.

The graph shows that KANA is on the lead throughout the peak hours with its highest rating at 8.30PM with 12.95. There is stiff competition amongst EBS and EBC1. EBS has its highest ratings at 9.30PM with 5.75 whereas EBC1 has its highest rating at 8.PM with 7.59. The rest of the stations compete throughout the peak hours.

GeoPoll also examined average share across the entire day during Q1 2017.

KANA TV captures the top spot with an average of 32.5% followed by EBS with a share of 15.8%, and EBC1 in the third position with an average of 15.4%.
