Ethiopia Quarter 4 2017: Radio & TV Audience
We are pleased to provide you with the first Media Measurement report with audience statistics on Top TV Stations and Top Radio Stations for Quarter 4 2017 (October- December) in Ethiopia, where the GeoPoll Media Measurement service is currently available. Media Measurement was launched in Ethiopia in February 2017. GeoPoll is currently the only daily and independent media measurement service in this country.
GeoPoll has used its daily data which is collected through its Media Measurement Service to analyze the top 10 radio stations in Ethiopia for Q4, 2017. They have analyzed both ratings and share of the stations at the national level.
The chart below shows the ratings of the top 10 radio stations in Ethiopia throughout the day.
FBC (Fana) has the most viewership in Ethiopia with its highest point being between 6-8AM with an average of 10.9. There is a competition for the 2nd position in ratings between EBC FM Addis 97.1 and Debub FM radio stations.
GeoPoll also took into account the average share for Q4 2017:
FBC (Fana) is ranked the 1st in audience share with 23%. EBC FM Addis 97.1 and Debub FM are the ranked the 2nd and 3rd with 12% and 10% respectively. Bisrat is the fourth with a share of 8%.
People listening to other stations outside the top 10, which broadcast across the country at a regional level, account for the remaining 17% share.

The chart below shows the ratings of the top 10 TV stations in Ethiopia during peak hours i.e 19:00 to 21:30.
Kana leads in ratings during peak hours while having its peak being at 8.30PM with an average of 9.3. EBS attains the 2nd position from 7-7.30PM then 9-9.30PM while EBC1 takes the 2nd position between 8-8.30PM.
GeoPoll also examined average share across the entire day during Q4, 2017.
Kana has the most audience share of 24% followed by EBS and EBC1 with 19% and 14% shares respectively. JTV and Nahoo split their audience share of 9%.
Share = The proportion watching a station, out of all of those watching at that time. For example, Station1 / (People Using TV) = 10/40 = 25%
Rating= The proportion watching a station out of total sample at that time multiplied by 100. For example, 100*Station1/Sample Size = 100 * 10 / 80 = 12.5.
