Ethiopia Quarter 3 2017; Radio & TV Audience
We are pleased to provide you with the first Media Measurement report with audience statistics on Top TV Stations and Top Radio Stations for Quarter 3 2017 (July - September) in Ethiopia, where the GeoPoll Media Measurement service is currently available. Media Measurement was launched in Ethiopia in February 2017. GeoPoll is currently the only daily and independent media measurement service in this country.
GeoPoll has analyzed the top 10 radio stations at the national level in Ethiopia for Q3 2017, using the daily data collected through its Media Measurement Service. Both ratings and share for the top stations in Ethiopia are examined.
The chart below shows the average ratings for the top 10 stations in Ethiopia throughout the day.
FBC (Fana) has the most ratings in Q3, 2017 throughout the day with its peak occurring between 6-8AM with an average of 8.3. There is a stiff competition between EBC FM Addis 97.1 and Debub FM for the second position in ratings.
GeoPoll also took into account the average share for Q3 2017:
FBC (Fana) leads in share with 23% followed by EBC FM Addis 97.1 and Debub FM with a share of 12% and 11% respectively. Sheger achieves the fourth position with a share of 8%.

The below chart shows the average ratings for the top 10 stations in Ethiopia during peak hours which is from 7PM to 10 PM.
TV viewers in Q3, 2017 have their loyalty to Kana TV during peak hours with its highest spot at 8.30PM with an average rating of 12.4. EBS achieves the second position in ratings between 7-8PM and 9-10PM whereas EBC1 achieves the same position between 8-9PM.
GeoPoll also examined average share across the entire day during Q3, 2017.
Kana has the leading share in Q3, 2017 of 30% with a difference of 12% from EBS which is the second. EBC1 and JTV attains the 3rd and 4th positions in share with 13% and 9% respectively.
Share = The proportion watching a station, out of all of those watching at that time. For example, Station1 / (People Using TV) = 10/40 = 25%
Rating= The proportion watching a station out of total sample at that time multiplied by 100. For example, 100*Station1/Sample Size = 100 * 10 / 80 = 12.5.
